You need to decide the venue by considering a couple of thing – the guest list and the budget that you have allotted . Besides there are two other important things that you should take into account :

While choosing the venue its okay if you are not in love with it ..You are just gonna have a marriage and not spend the rest of your life there .. Having said that many people still believe in traditional halls or mandaps as you say where as others prefer Banquet halls , five star hotels , lawns or  have it in exotic places .. You can also have themed weddings and can decorate your venue accordingly ..

How to decorate the venue and choose the wedding style ?  

Most of us prefer decorating venue without blowing the budget . The most important  part of the decoration is  to focus on lighting . You can light up the way to your wedding with countless strings of colorful fairy lights. Good food is the most important part of the wedding . After all no one will praise your wedding without good food no matter how much you spend on the venue , décor , lighting and such other staffs . If you are little flexible with the budget you can incorporate multiple cuisines but if you are stringent on budget , do not forget to atleast include the food stalls that’s serving the yummy street food and munchies that we crave for  . Talk with your caterer for different food and drink pairings. Ask your caterer to let you taste food prior to fixing the caterer up so that you can set your expectations . When it comes to catering , always go for the ones that have good recommendation and reviews .. You do not want to screw up the marriage by choosing the wrong caterers .
